2009: A year of improvement?

Posted by Nomad Scry On January - 2 - 2009

Resolutions for the new year:

  • Finish “Sword in Velvet”
  • Complete two short stories
  • Get 50% out of debt
  • WIN NaNoWriMo 2009
  • Get married on June 21, 2009
  • Change Name (again)
  • Release a podcast once per month
  • Cut back on Twitter and Podcasts - much fun, need to spend more time writing.
  • Run an RPG once per month
  • Get down to visit Sylver.
  • Begin calling her once a month.
  • Start emailing her once a week.

mad-skillz
That is such a short list, and yet… I get about half way down and start to hyperventilate.  I still need to rearrange the list in order of precidence, but this seems to be it.  This is what I intend to spend my next year doing.

In order to make the time that I am going to need to do all of this, I’m going to have to pretty much reduce my twitter usage and podsumings by about 80%.  I will probably feel a lot more alone (again) from this, but I’ve been spending more time paying attention to all 400 of my twitter ‘friends’ and I certainly can’t keep up with all of the podcasts that I’ve been downloading.  Even with designating the entire 8 hour work day as podsuming time, I still can’t keep up.

The funny thing was how much more addicted to podcasts I am.  With twitter, I went through and turned off sms notifications for 90% of my peeps.  I have yet to remove 1% of the podcasts though.  I guess that a 140 character update just doesn’t compare very heavily with a 30 minute update from someone who’s thoughts I am interested in.

On a different note, I think I figured out the end of “Sword in Velvet.”  I like it becuase it is unexpected, suits my temperment, and opens up a sequel in a drasticly different flavor.  I don’t know how well it will work out though.  If it works, it’ll be awesome.  If it doesn’t, then it will leave any readers pissed off at me.  Heh.

Facebook and Applications

Posted by Nomad Scry On July - 28 - 2008

Over the last week, I started playing with a new app on Facebook.  It basically allows me to build out my own family tree using Facebook members or just whatever data I supply.  This particular app is rather brok3n.  But it was the vector by which I have doubled the amount I know about my father’s family.

This is very strange and cool and, because I am me, rather frightening.

I have second cousins once removed and other nifty neat family peoples!  I wonder where everyone is?  Are they clustered together in a small area or spread out across the world?

And I wonder if any of them are worth wasting time on?  ‘Cuz that would just be rad!

Double check your answers

Posted by Nomad Scry On January - 29 - 2008

Mr. Rom, 8 years old, is rather displeased with me right now.  He’s been working on his homework since I got up this evening and I am not letting him “be done” with it until he double checks his answers for the math homework.

I don’t think he has really even confronted the idea of double checking before…  He keeps going back to the kitchen table and muttering, loudly and angrily, before coming back to me with the same unaltered worksheet.   The 8th question has a problem with carrying, so I can just glance at the sheet and see that he hasn’t fixed it yet.  I tell him to go finish double checking and he says okay nicely, to my face, and then angrily mutters back at the table.

I’m going to have to go sit down with him and work this out.  I want him to do the work, to get the concept, but I think at this point his aggravation is so  high he can’t even see where he is missing the point.

And oh my!  He’s really really not going to be happy when he finishes redoing his math and I tell him that his sentences aren’t sentences…

Happy Born Bro

Posted by Nomad Scry On January - 25 - 2008

Today is my second youngest brother’s birthday.  Which means that he is now old enough to drink.  And old enough, hopefully, to be responsible about it.

I’m going to have to give him a yell later.  The last time I talked to him, he was planning on moving into the dorm… and that didn’t work out too well last time.

On second thought, I wonder if I’ll even be able to raise him on the phone.  He’s at least as bad as I am about that, though I seriously doubt he is anywhere near our brother Erebus.
