Title foolishness

Friday morning I drove about an hour and a half to buy a car. It is a ’91 Nissam Maxima with over 200,000 miles on it. The seller and I exchanged documents. Then I drove back home to recover from a hellish week.

I spent most of the weekend asleep.

On monday morning, after getting out of work, I went down to my insurance agent in order to get an RMV-1 form and start the registration process. I was splendidly pleased when the agent pointed out that I didn’t have the title. I had a copy of it. And that is worthless for getting the car registered. In fact, I not only had a worthless piece of paper, the guy I was supposedly buying the car from isn’t the one named on the title.

I emailed the guy and let him know that I actually needed the real title. He said, oops. I asked him when I could come and get the title from him. I haven’t heard back since Mon, May 12, 2008 at 2:40 PM EST. I’m starting to think that I’ve been scammed.

And Jade is ready to start a suit against him. I have been arguing that we don’t know for sure yet that he was intending to steal my money, but… the longer he prolongs this, the more it looks like she is right and I am wrong. He has until Friday, a full seven days, to fix the situation. After that, I can’t drive the car and at that point I will have paid him six hundred dollars and received… nothing?

I love it, so very very much when I am made an idiot.
