I’m not sure where I left off, so if I didn’t mention something: I’m sorry.
So the ‘91 Nissan Maxima failed the emissions inspection. And it failed the safety inspection. On further digging, it turns out that the main source of the emissions failure was one of the cylinders. I think it was #3? Anyhow, the cylinder was loosing compression. The autoshop recommended replacing the engine. Or the vehicle. Heh.
In this state, there is a Lemon Aid (haha, get it!?) law that protects used car buyers. Basically, if the cost to repair a vehicle to pass inspection is more than 10% of the vehicle cost - I’m allowed to cancel the sale. Within the first 7 days.
The problem with that is the seller managed to hold title for, surprise, 7 days after the sale. So I didn’t get the inspection done until roughly 9 days after the sale. I got the title, I got the insurance form (RMV-3), I registered the car and then I got the inspection.
And then… someone stole my license plates. Both of ‘em. Front and Back. !?! It took almost two hours to figure out what the correct number to call the police was. The phone book lists 5 numbers for the local cops. The 911 emergency number, the backup emergency number, two business phone numbers, and a “special investigations” number. I finally found the “non-emergency” number listed on off the state government web page for the local city. (The city web page was horrible.) The “non-emergency” number is the “special investigations” number.
So I called the cops, filed a report (making the stolen plates useless to me), went the insurance company and got more forms. Then I had to wait… for the holiday weekend to get over.
On Memorial Day, Jade and I went to look at some cars. We spent some time walking around the Nissan Versa, checking out the feel of it. Then we went to take a look at a (any) used Jeep Liberty. But we got hooked by a shitty car salesman - so we walked out without seeing anything. Then we stopped by to look at the Scion xD. I ended up signing papers for the xD.
Now I am just waiting for the title papers to come in, for the insurance money to come in… and to find out what the frick I did with the gap insurance papers for the xA.
I am so very very very tired of all this nonsense. I want to have free time to myself again. Dammit.
